Pursuant to legislation passed in 2007 there are no longer two categories of licensure for Respiratory Therapists (CRT and RRT) but only one (LRT). For more information click here. Licensed Respiratory Therapists (LRTs) may use the highest professional credential they have earned after their names (CRT or RRT). The 3 letter prefix in an individual's license number (CRT or RRT) only indicates what credential was held by the individual at the time the license was issued. The CRT prefix is also used for those individuals who passed the Louisiana credentialing exam and are not nationally certified.
